During Dino Day, third graders participated in a fun and engaging math review for the State Math Assessment by completing 10 challenging problem-solving stations. Working with a partner allowed students to collaborate and talk through questions, reinforcing critical thinking skills. To make the educational experience more exciting, each correctly completed station earned students a chance to go digging for dinosaur fossils. Snacks in the shapes of dinosaurs were a big hit as well!

This year, our Chess Club was buzzing with energy as 25 third and fourth graders took to the boards. It was impressive to watch these young players embrace the challenge of facing different opponents each session! They mastered a variety of new strategies and complex moves, transforming every match into a lesson in resilience. These students showed remarkable growth in critical thinking and problem solving!

In this hands-on lab, students packed a lot of chemistry into one experiment. While investigating single replacement reactions, they explored the activity series of metals and saw oxidation-reduction (redox) reactions happening in real time. By testing how different metals interact in solution, students were able to visualize which metals are more reactive and how those differences drive chemical change. We connected this work to prior learning, reinforcing concepts from earlier single replacement reactions and introducing “redox runs” as a way to track electron transfer. Even more importantly, students tied these reactions to the real world by relating them to corrosion—an everyday process affecting metals all around us. This lab gave students a clear, visual understanding of how abstract concepts like reactivity and electron transfer play out in practical, observable ways.
